Run a Basketball Tournament
Promote competitive sports and build team-building skills by hosting a basketball tournament in your local community. Youth are living in a world filled with non-active distractions - break this cycle by bringing the community together and facilitating a basketball tournament!
How might this help your community?
Some youth might not have access to play basketball in their communities, having them play basketball in communities centres near their neighbourhoods might give them the opportunity to participate.
It allows youth to be active, brings the community together, they can build relationships.
You might have a bunch of friends who want to have a basketball tournament, and you can invite other community members to also join.
TIPS FOR WHEN & WHERE
At the local community centre or park
On a Saturday afternoon during the summer
Suggested Action Plan
Contact community centres around the city that have gyms, or you can choose to have it in a public court. Book a date.
Create and print a flyer. Post it around the neighbourhood and share it with friends on Instagram.
Get people to sign-up by texting or emailing, or filling out a Google Form.
Put players into teams. Create a tournament schedule.
Purchase a basketball and a bunch of drinks for the tournament (probably for around 10-20 people, but it's up to you how many you want).
