Our next leadership camps are in Spring 2025, in-person in downtown Toronto and online
By organizing a community movie night, you can give the people in your community a chance to relax, socialize, and celebrate their cultures or learn about other cultures. Provide snacks, drinks, a good movie, and a fun time for the community you love!
This event can bring residents together in a fun and safe environment to enjoy a movie together.
You can also invite local community organizations to promote other programs they have to residents at your event.
Regardless, you will help create a meaningful experience for the individuals and families in your community!
On an evening during the summer months
This may be bring in a large audience of people of all ages. Consider a school gymnasium or outdoor field, depending on the number of guests you wish to host.
Contact a local school or community centre about using their space. Book a date or book a full weekend. If you're having this event outdoors, consider any electrical connections you'll need. Also, for outdoor events, think about having an indoor space as a backup in case it rains.
Select a film that is suitable for all ages to watch, so that everyone can relax and connect. Perhaps a comedy film or a family favourite. If you plan to host this event more than once, select a film from a different culture for each movie night. Do a Google search to see if there are any restrictions for playing that movie in a large public space (such as copyright licenses).
Create and print a flyer for advertising the event to community members. Post the posters around the neighbourhood and advertise on social media. Include a brief movie summary and age rating in the flyer.
Get attendees to sign up through text, e-mail, or Google Forms.
Prepare a few topics for a discussion after the movie.
Go to the space you've booked and do a test run to make sure there will be no technology challenges on the day of your event.
