Organizing a Create-A-Book project allows youth to write, illustrate, and create their own books for younger children or community programs. This project encourages creativity, storytelling, and literacy while giving youth the opportunity to see their ideas come to life.
Encourages literacy and a love of reading for both creators and readers
Helps youth build confidence through creative expression
Provides books that can be donated to schools, libraries, or community centres
This project gives youth the opportunity to express themselves through writing and art while learning how stories are created and shared.
On a weekday after school or during a weekend workshop
At a school, library, or community centre
Decide whether the books will be stories, picture books, or short poems.
Secure a space at a school, library, or community centre.
Create flyers and promote the project to youth participants.
Gather writing and art supplies such as paper, markers, and pencils.
Support youth as they write, illustrate, and assemble their books.
Bind or compile the books and decide where they will be donated or displayed.
