Organize a Food Drive
Host a community food drive which will make nonperishable foods and other supplies more accessible to individuals from low-income households. Everything that is collected will be donated to local shelters, where those who need these resources can access them.
How might this help your community?
This food drive will help provide nonperishable foods, necessities and other supplies to youth and adults from low-income households who cannot afford to buy necessities.
It will allow low-income households to access basic necessities that they may not be able to afford, while also bringing the community together.
TIPS FOR WHEN & WHERE
At a local elementary school
On a Saturday during the summer
Suggested Action Plan
Find and contact a location to host the food drive, and book a date. Get people to donate food, and/or purchase non-perishable foods yourself.
Find and contact local shelter(s) to donate the collected food.
Recruit volunteers to help out on the day of the food drive.
Create, print, and distribute flyers to promote the event.
Collect the nonperishable food and supplies.
Send the food and supplies to the shelter(s).
POTENTIAL RESOURCES
✓ Flyers to print out (around $10)
✓ A place to host the event
✓ Various non-perishable foods, such as canned foods, granola bars, and bags of rice/pasta (around $300 to $400)
✓ A bunch of boxes (collected from a local grocery store)
✓ Drinks and snacks for the volunteers who fill and deliver the boxes (around $40)
