Give Back-to-School Supplies to Kids
Encourage altruism and generosity within your neighbourhood by asking community members to donate some school supplies for children who may need them more than their peers. Help reduce the stresses of these families by removing their back-to-school supplies expenses.
How might this help your community?
There are many low-income families who are unable to afford school supplies for their child(ren) because of tight expenses.
Executing this project can support families who cannot afford school supplies to receive a backpack full of free supplies.
You and other volunteers can collect supplies at various locations throughout the week. Schools, community centers, churches and outside of stores.
TIPS FOR WHEN & WHERE
Collections, organizing & packing, and giving out in one complete week
2 weeks before September
Suggested Action Plan
Inquire supervisors at various locations if they can allow for school supplies to be collected there.
Create and print a flyer that advertises the pick up of school supplies will be happening at various times, locations and dates. Post it around the neighbourhood and share it with friends on Instagram.
Get people to sign-up by texting or emailing, or filling out a Google Form.
Make a list of additional supplies needed.
Recruit volunteers to stay at collection locations and deliver bags to the children at schools in low-income areas.
Once all of the school supplies have been gathered, arrange and pack them into bags to be distributed to the kids who need them.
Deliver the bags to the youth OR notify families that they can pick up the bags at a designated location (TBD).
