• Fewer opportunities for learning and employment result from growing up and residing in a community that lacks resources and support. For the youth who will attend, having a tech professional speak about their work experience and offer career mentoring through this event will be a meaningful experience. 

• The purpose of this event is to help marginalized youth find pathways into the tech industry. This event will be open to people of all ages because the participants will have access to resources for learning to code, designing websites, and so on. 

• Tech is a high-demand industry, so youth will be set up to get secure employment. This event will also empower traditionally marginalized youth.

Suggested Action Plan

1. Contact tech organizations or connect with people who specialize in tech on LinkedIn/Instagram to see if they are interested in participating in the event. 

2. Connect with local schools and inquire if they would be interested in having a guest lecturer from the tech industry and ask if the gymnasium or a stage room can be used. If so, arrange a specific date and time.

3. Create and print a flyer to advertise the event in the schools. Ask your friends if they might be interested in joining too. 

4. Establish a schedule (including who will speak when and whether there will be additional activities). 

5. Prepare handouts with informational materials for after-event review

6. Run the event!
