Our next leadership camps are in Spring 2025, in-person in downtown Toronto and online
Increase accessibility within your community by building ramps for local buildings. Individuals who have restricted mobility often cannot access certain spaces within their neighbourhood - break this cycle by building ramps for buildings in your area, which makes the community a more inclusive place!
Individuals who use wheelchairs often cannot access local buildings, leaving them to be discluded from their local communities. Installing ramps not only makes these buildings more accessible, but also makes the community more inclusive.
This project works to remove some barriers that people in wheelchairs face. It will work to make your community a more barrier-free place!
At the local community centre
September
Find and contact local buildings that are currently inaccessible. Ask the building manager or owner for permission to build a wheelchair ramp. Set a date for when you'll be going to build the ramp.
Find a volunteer with experience/knowledge in architecture and building ramps. Ask them for advice and guidance with your project.
With the volunteer, come up with directions on how to build a ramp.
Get the necessary materials and measurements necessary to build the ramp.
Create, print, and distribute flyers recruiting volunteers to help build the ramp. Post it around the neighbourhood and share it with friends on Instagram.
Get volunteers to sign up through Google Forms, email, or text.
